Coolness on a Scale of 1 to M...

M (a.k.a the kid who is cooler than your kid) was chatting with my dad at the dinner table last night. My parents are down for a two week visit, and since they don’t get to see the kids NEARLY as often as they used to (although technically they DO own a house down here now…there is the issue of actually coming down and LIVING there…) their visits most often begin with tons of presents and sweets and attention that amounts to verbal spoilage...

“Give me a hug!”, “Give me a kiss!”, “Give me a hug AND a kiss!”, “Now I’m going to kiss YOU!”, “Give me a ‘High Five!’”, “Give me a “High Five!’”, “Give me ANOTHER ‘High Five!’”

I suppose my dad was over the whole, “Give me a hug and kiss” thing, since he IS a man, after all, and was trying to initiate the time honored male bonding that IS the “High Five.” But after about twenty or so ‘High Fives’ in a two hour period, M decided to put he own (decidedly M) twist on the matter.

“Ok, Big A (my kids call their Grand-father by his first name preceded by the word “Big.” It is the perfect combination of charming and stupid and is met with grins and laughter whenever strangers hear it), I’ve had enough High Fives,” announced M,

“Instead, can you just give me a High ZERO!” He said with his hand raised in a fist, the perfect posture for the Generation X version of the “High Five”…

When you are too cool to High Five, but too casual for a proper handshake…there’s the FIST BUMP a.k.a The High ZERO.

What is a Fist Bump, after all? A “High Five” without, well, the five.

That’s right, Mother Effers…learn the lingo. You’ve just been SCHOOLED by a 4 year old, Bee-otch!

Brilliant! My middle son used to give everyone a "tickle 5" where he's tickle their palm when they tried to hi-five them!
